Hakuba Iwatake Mountain Resort is located in Hakuba Village, in the northwestern part of Nagano Prefecture, which became internationally famous as the site of the Nagano Winter Olympics. Shirouma Iwatake is a mountain resort where you can enjoy a variety of activities all year round, known as the place where you can see the most beautiful views of the three mountains of Hakuba (Mt. Shirouma, Mt. Shakushi, and Mt. Shirouma.)

During the green season (late April to mid-November), you can enjoy the fresh greenery and remaining snow on the mountain range from spring to summer, and the three-tiered autumn foliage of the snow cap on the summit, autumn foliage on the middle of the mountain, and greenery at the foot of the mountain in autumn. And during the winter season (mid-December to late March), you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of each season, such as the mysterious silvery white mountains.

Green season at Hakuba Iwatake Mountain Resort

Enjoy an 8-minute aerial walk on the gondola to the summit at an altitude of 1,289m. From there, you can enjoy a 360-degree view of the Northern Alps, Hakuba Village, and the mountains of Hokushin.

Green season offer a variety of services and attractions. For example, there is a superb view terrace & cafe “HAKUBA MOUNTAIN HARBOR” where you can enjoy the majestic Alps while eating delicious food, and a large swing “Yahoo! Swing” where you can enjoy the feeling of jumping into the big mountains. In addition, there is “Iwatake MTB PARK” where you can enjoy exhilarating MTB riding in the great outdoors! Also, for those who have to work a little while traveling, how about a resort telework area where you can work in the forest in a quiet environment?

Hakuba Iwatake Mountain Resort becomes “Hakuba Iwatake Snow Field” during the winter season (mid-December to late March). In winter, they are developing various projects and events where skiers and snowboarders can enjoy winter sports that are highly satisfying and Hakuba’s best powder snow.

“IWATAKE WHITE PARK Iwatake White Park” on the top of the mountain with an altitude of 1,289m is a snow outdoor area where not only skiers and snowboarders but also tourists, families, and pets can fully enjoy.

In the snow outdoor area, there is a “Relaxing & Photogenic Zone” that will make you want to take pictures, such as “Kamakura”, “Snow Wall”, and “Snow Angel”, which is a winter tradition.

Travel Time to Hakuba Iwatake Mountain Resort

By Car

Access to Hakuba Iwatake Mountain Resort is about 4 hours by car from Tokyo, about 3 hours and 30 minutes from Nagoya, about 5 hours and 30 minutes from Osaka, and by wide road from the nearest IC (Nagano IC, Azumino IC, Itoigawa IC). It will take about 1 hour.

Azumino IC

There are 4 free parking lots. The first parking lot next to the gondola lift can accommodate 100 vehicles, and the second parking lot (central parking lot) opposite the gondola lift can accommodate 750 vehicles. The 3rd parking lot next to White Plaza can accommodate 100 cars, and the 4th parking lot next to Komakusa can accommodate 50 cars. Entry is possible 24 hours a day, except for certain periods.

By Trains

It takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes from Tokyo to Hakuba/Iwatake using the JR Nagano Shinkansen “Asama” and the express bus Nagano Hakuba Line. From Shinjuku, take the JR Chuo Line East Line “Super Azusa”, then take the JR Oito Line from Matsumoto to Hakuba/Iwatake via Hakuba Station, which takes about 3 hours and 30 minutes.

It takes the same amount of time if you take the JR Chuo-Higashi Line “Limited Express Shinano” from Nagoya and take the JR Oito Line from Matsumoto via Hakuba Station. From Osaka, take the JR Tokaido Shinkansen/JR Chuo-Higashi Line “Limited Express Shinano”, and take the JR Oito Line from Matsumoto via Hakuba Station, which takes about 4 hours and 30 minutes. From Kanazawa, take the JR Hokuriku Main Line, and from Itoigawa take the JR Oito Line via Hakuba Station, which takes about 2 hours and 10 minutes. A free shuttle bus runs for a limited time from JR Hakuba Station and Hakuba Happo Bus Stop.

By Airplanes

It takes about 2 hours and 40 minutes from Osaka to Hakuba/Iwatake using the JR Oito Line via Matsumoto Airport. From Sapporo via Matsumoto Airport and from Fukuoka via Matsumoto Airport, it takes about 3 hours and 10 minutes to Hakuba/Iwatake using the JR Oito Line.
