Kanto Region Local Guide Biz is a website that introduces information about Kanto region (Tokyo Metro., Kanagawa Prefecture, Saitama Prefecture, Chiba Prefecture, Ibaraki Prefecture, Gunma Prefecture, Tochigi Prefecture) in a directory format. This site provides information about restaurants, stores, companies, organizations, exhibitions events, famous sightseeing spots, demonstration experiments. The Kanto region, consisting of Tokyo, Kanagawa, Saitama, Chiba, Ibaraki, Tochigi, and Gunma prefectures, is divided into seven regions in Japan (Kanto, Tohoku/Hokkaido, Chubu, Kansai, Chugoku region, Shikoku region, and Kyushu/Okinawa region), it has the highest population and GDP, accounts for 40% of the nation’s economy, and can be said to be the brain or engine that drives the Japanese economy.

 

Population and GDP

The Kanto region accounts for 34.4% (43,464,000) of Japan’s total population (126,167,000), with a GDP of 214,482,973,000,000 yen. This accounts for 39.0% of Japan’s national GDP of 549,588,053,000,000 yen. It is also larger than the GDP of Italy and Brazil in the same year, and slightly inferior to India’s.

Tourism

Regarding tourism in the Kanto region, the total number of visitors to the Kanto region, a domestic travel destination in 2019, was 237.91 million, accounting for 27.9% of the total number of visitors nationwide of 853.23 million. The number of foreign visitors is 28.058 million, accounting for 37% of the national total (75.321 million).

Kanto prefectures and municipalities selected by the government as “SDGs future cities”

Seven prefectures, cities, and towns in Kanagawa selected the most as SDGs future cities

Kanagawa Prefecture has the largest number of prefectures and municipalities selected as SDGs future cities in the Kanto region (as of September 2021), including Kanagawa Prefecture, Yokohama City, Kamakura City, Kawasaki City, Odawara City, Sagamihara City, and Matsuda Town. and seven areas have been selected as SDGs future cities. At the same time, 4 areas of Kanagawa Prefecture, Yokohama City, Kamakura City, and Odawara City have been selected as Jichidai SDGs model projects.

The next most popular area is the Tokyo area, with four areas selected: Hino City, Toshima Ward, Sumida Ward, and Togawa Ward. Two wards, Toshima Ward and Sumida Ward, have been selected as local government SDGs model projects.

Next, in the Saitama Prefecture area, Saitama Prefecture, Saitama City, and Kasukabe City have been selected as SDGs Future Cities. Next, Tsukuba City and Sakai Town in Ibaraki Prefecture were selected as SDGs Future Cities. Similarly, two areas, Gunma Prefecture and Minakami Town, have been selected as SDGs Future Cities.

Next, Ichihara City in Chiba Prefecture was selected as an SDGs future city and a local government SDGs model project. Finally, Utsunomiya City in Tochigi Prefecture was selected as an SDGs future city.
